Numerous antibiotics have been obtained from the broth culture of streptomyces, however, none of the antibiotics consisting of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine and oxygen has yet been found. A strain recently isolated from the soil produces an antibiotic which inhibits the growth of Gram positive bacteria. This antibiotic is a new one, because it consists of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine and oxygen. The characters of the strain are similar to those of Streptomyces exfoliatus described by Waksman1,2), therefore, the writers named this antibiotic•gExfoliation•h.
